Someone has asked me to build them a Regner Max from kit. I know a few people are interested in this diminutive little machine so you can follow the construction here.

The kit has metal solebars but I have started with the chassis/floor part of the wooden structure and this is as much as I will use as
I have been tasked with fabricating a metal tram type body.
This will be constructed in zinc and brass.

This machine will by gas fired at the owner's request.

Rolling chassis.

I don't like the wooden construction. The whole alignment of axles, shaft and gears relies on getting the wood parts asbolutely square. The metal solebars are just relatively thin side pieces that bolt on to the wood frames.
The floor then bolts on to the top of the solebars after with 1.5 mm bolts. The pre drilled holes must align perfectly.

My construction was just very slightly out of square which meant the holes didn't line up. I had reassamble it all.

Is that how they are normally fired or will you have to modify?

The standard Max comes with a tray burner for gellified alcohol.

As an option for another 109 € you can have a complete gas burner with tank. This part is completely assembled and just requires bolting down where the burner tray would fit.

I shall leave my own modified Max alcohol fired. It adds some 'variety' when operating.

The gas tank looks almost as big as the boiler which is a pity! Or is it just perspective in the photo?

Agreed, I would imagine that you got multi fills of the boiler to one burner fill?

I just conscripted dad's Regner Max as he has had it since 2010 and has not done a thing with it. I will get it up and running for him and back to him with some upgrades. Or convince him that I need it and he should get an Accucraft Dora instead.

.......The rising cost of brass probably.
Quite a few models have used wood. 'Fanny' for example has a birch ply roof.

Well I've just about put the tools away for this one at the moment.
Although I haven't fitted a water filler, level and steam reverser yet. I'm waiting for the owner to discuss about these items.

The final views of a very simplistic body.

It was not a nice day outside today so garage workshop pictures only.

In company with my orginal 'mini' Max.

Looks very industrial in black and white.

For the next 'Max' project I'm waiting for a Microline Dampfmaschinenlagan (Max boiler + single cylinder engine only) and I shall build a steam electric with a BLDC motor..... Laughing

It has become a very beautifull locomotive. Nice detailing!

Makes me wonder, if you also could connect a little electric motor with the flywheel it could function as a generator for the lights.

Thats a great idea Paul, thanks.... Idea

Now, I wonder if lights will work direct from a small BLDC motor, perhaps a bulb strung across two of the phases.....

I might try this on my Regner Max first.

I think that would work; just like a dynamo on a bicycle. Only the light strength will vary with the speed of the BLDC motor.
