A while ago I built a wooden tipper car with working breakes and automatic doors. It's made from beech and wood from old cigar boxes. The frame is screwed together with M 1.6mm bolts and nuts.

Yes I did. The only purchased parts are the axles, axle boxes, some brass and all the fasteners.

Just a comparison of size with my walking dragline.

Shocked
Another small model of yours?

I really like the dump car. Great photos!

I want to biuld a copy of this. Has anyone have any ideas on how to make this into a remote dumping car using a servo & how to construct the way to do it?
I am after a way to have some action on the railway for the grand children.

I'm pleased you like it Smile.

It won't be easy to hide all the RC
components needed. Another way would be to build a fixed, special
dumping point. Something like this:

There are bended bars that pushes the dump bodies.

I have to change the way of tipping my ore cars. Mine are home made, the size is about 300mm long with the servo inside the end with drop doors in the bottom. The trouble with bottom doors is that it is hard to clear out all the "coal" with out jamming the doors open.
I will convert over to the this type & size of car.
If anyone has any photos or drawings of the tipping rail on the side, it would be a great help.

Thank you Tacbob.

You're welcome Smile.

It uses bended wire frames that rises upwards. The dump bodies slide on this "ramp" while the car is moving until it tipps fully. On the other side of the tipping rail is another bended wire that pushes the dump bodies back.

Another way would be a rotary car tipper. Something like this:

rotary car tipper
or this:
Tumbler 1910

I thought of making a tipper or tumbler, but the size needed makes quite a large commitment to the area with an indoor layout.
But I might add that if anyone had drawing or contruction photos of actual garden train size action models I am interested.
I like all my biuldings & models to be indoors, with outdoor running as part of the layout.
As autumn is here in Australia it is time for more trains. Last month the temperature set the record in my town, 45 C. Way to hot to be outside & inside my shed was like an oven.

I think that sometimes we need more action on my layout to interest any new people thinking of taking up garden trains. Especially if they have come from HO trains with many operating features.

Hi Andrew,

Look at this:
1/35 rotary tipper

Go to "The Diorama's" and look for Pictures Eneret. Maybe you should contact them for more infos.

Hi Andrew,

Look here. There is another way of mechanising the tipper. A vertical device. Look at the pics of the diorama.

Somehow the pic disapeared and someone else wrote the line above. So here is the pic again.
