PostSubject: International G Scale Gathering in France July 2014   Tue Oct 22, 2013 11:50 am

We have been invited by the “Circuit Vapeur Denis Papin” (CVDP)at Chitenay near Blois in France to attend a G Scale event in 2014

The circuit has 45mm 3,5 inch and 5inch permanent tracks but no track power, so primarily of interest to those of a “live steam, battery or live diesel” persuasion!

We may also attend with a powered circuit(s) - CGT, MOMI or both???

However it is situated in the valley of the Loire with it's numerous chateau, vineyards and beautiful countryside. There is plenty of B&B accommodation, hotels etc locally and you can camp or caravan on site.

The provisional dates for this are July 12-13-14, 2014

Chitenay is near Blois midway between Orleans and Tours, a 3 hour drive from the Ferry at Caen or 5 hours drive from Calais.

If you have an interest in joining this event please post a reply here or PM me, with details of the likely number in your party and whether anyone in your group would be interested in local family/friends type visits to chateau, vineyards, etc!

Salut

Hi Brian,

I am interested in attending this event and would be accompanied by Margaret.

Also I guarantee, unlike at the last Expo, to provide at least one maybe two locos that will work (not fail) on your broad gauge 45mm tracks.

By the way good to hear you are recovering well from your procedure and good to see your new loco on video.

David

PS Also sounds like the location is not that far from the Blanc Argent !!!

Thanks Brian for taking up the mantle to organise this. I have just been far too busy at the moment.
I shall be there. I think a whole boozy barbecue weekend is likely with even a stopover until Monday perhaps. the 14th July is French national day too.drunken bom

The celebrated 60 cm railway at Pithiviers is not too far away and neither too the metre gauge SNCF Blanc Argent at Romorantin or the standard gauge Train Touristique de Sarthe .
Centre Parc in Sologne is nearby if people with family want to come and do other things apart from trains including mine.

So, interested parties to date...

Brian & Caroline Bushell
Phil Kelly & Dorothy Jones
Van & Sue Calvert
David & Margaret Grantham
Carl, Valerie & Josephine Hibbs

I shall be researching local accommodation and PM the interested parties with some suggestions. Because the event falls across the holiday weekend 14th July(Bastille Day) we'd be advised to make early bookings!

3 couples have booked http://www.auberge-du-centre.com/ for three nights 11th-13th July
Further double rooms may be available?

Else there's the Holiday in Blois ... https://www.ihg.com/holidayinn/hotels/us/en/blois/blofr/hoteldetail?

Again I recommend booking early it's school holidays and a special weekend in France.

If you use bookings.com you won't need to pay up front!

Cheers

Sorry change of plan.

I've pm'd the parties involved.

The Auberge have upped their rates so we've cancelled the accommodation there.

So far Phil & Dorthy, Caro and I are now booked into the Holiday in Blois.

I await feedback from Van and David!

Hi
Jean Paul has pointed out that CVDP have only 45mm, 5" and 7.25" tracks NOT 3.5" as said in my original posting!

I don't think that affects anyone here!

But just to be sure.

Well I am thinking of it, as I am the week before one hour from there. So I could stay in Blois one or two nights and visit Amboise as well.

Just need to check few things with the poney timetable (competition for the children in Lamotte Beuvron).

It would be great if you can make it, but you can't run track powered trains.

So you'll just have to finish that live diesel bounce

Seriously you'll be very welcome whether you have stock to run or not!

I will be there but probably without family for the whole weekend. They may come for a day.
However a few other ferroviopathe people from outside the forum have expressed an interest in visiting to which I have welcomed as they may bring some trains.

For accomodation I would just like to pitch a tent and preferably by the circuit.

Hi Peter

Glad you're thinking of joining us!

They're are stacks of camping sites in the area, I know that Carl has/is contacting the Marie who have sites that may even be free for his tent!

It is the 14th July weekend so you may need to book early!

Peterborough means a flight to H´row and then 90 min. up the motorway - just about jusitifiable if I include a visit to family in Kent on the trip back.

Not certain where the next airport is to where the French happening is happening, but I would need to get back on the Sunday of that weekend, as I my wedding anniversary is on Monday 14th July (I know, but that way I don´t forget it ....)

Just a reminder that this event is just a weekend away!

I think I've been in contact with all the CGT participants, but do let me know if I've missed anyone?
