Ever wondered what a 1:1 garden railway might look like? Today I took a few minutes off to visit the Zulauf garden centre and nursery on the way to Zurich from Basel, and found that they had left the doors open.

They really did have a 60cm estate railway to carry plants around. Today itīs managed as an association, but both nursery and line are still there. You can check out the Baumschule Zulauf Schinznach on Google if you like.

They had big ideas, as the pics indicate, even though some of the locos are of more "reasonable" size. I was able to sneak round the back to take a look, and yes, they had left the doors open, before opening for the public in April. Can you guess whatīs under the tarp?

Hereīs the link to the association website. Youīll find another SAR loco here, under "verschwundenene Fahrzeuge" (those that have disappeared ....). And itīs a big one, also once modelled by Accucraft UK.

Spring Open Day on the Schinznach "Garden" Railway, at the Zulauf Garden Centre, near Zurich. It was overcast and it rained, but the place was full of happy plant buyers and train enthusiasts. You could get as close as you like to the locos without anybody making you wear a high-viz vest or sign something in triplicate. If you think that the W&L used to get close to immovable objects or cars during its trips through Welshpool, before becoming a heritage railway, well you havenīt seen anything. Car drivers trying to get out of the garden centre risked seeing a narrow gauge locomotive bearing up behind them, faster than you might think, as the track partly shares the road inside the centre. Couldnīt be better.
