I visited the new line this Winter.

The line existed a long time ago, but was remove to do a road, but now it's again a rack line to go on top of the mountain.

I will do it again in summer.

Thanks for all the wonderful photos. Im a rack railway fan, and the K&NWLR has a short one on the Welsh side of the line.

Very interesting! The modern railway seems a classical one. But I have a few questions on the former tramcar:
It appears that there were three rails. What was the use of the center one? It does not seem to be a rack. The first thought that went through my mind was a power pickup rail as in the Mont-Blanc express: I was crazy as in that time they used steam loks!!! Was it used as a safety brake?

It is a rack, a different version. I was made at the time for this specific line.

Le systeme Hanscotte.

thank you for this contribution. As it raised in me some interest, I looked for documentation on this system.

It is not a real rack. Two horizontal wheels press on the third central rail with hydrocally controled pressure.
