PostSubject: Is anyone there?   Fri Feb 05, 2016 5:34 pm

Hello

Seriously, there are so few contributors these days, I question the existence of the forum.

Firstly, before asking any questions, I'd like to thank Carl Hibbs for keeping it going so far, BUT...................

Have the original active members moved on to other hobbies/interests?

Have those who still share a passion for Garden Railways found other forums/outlets?
If so which?

Have our interests in the hobby moved on to other ways of expression?

Or like myself have, through this forum (for whichever I am forever thankful), found a small group of local friends who continue to enjoy the hobby/passion together?

I'd be interested to know, as I feel somewhat guilty myself for lack of involvement these days!

Carl? What are your views?

Hi Brian, thanks for your post.
I find the forum very very informative and useful as a reference tool as well as for picture hosting.
Also I have quite a few things I could post but haven't got round to it yet.
I hope that the forum can continue and wonder if the forum , though having fewer posts these days, still has lots of readers.

Still here too but very busy at the moment (family, job). So there's a lack of time.

Btw: any one knows what happened to Carl? Haven't seen him posting for ages.

Hello again from Australia (different continent I know)
I have rediscovered the site.
I bought a new computer and lost all my favorites from the browser
It was only after flashing up the old computer that I came across the site again.

Hi Brian, I tried last year to get my line back up and running after about 4 years of inactivity - clearing overgrown vegetation etc - but it's so difficult now with the appalling weather we had here that seemed to make the weeds and ivy grow back with even more vigour than before. I feel I am fighting a losing battle with it to be honest. Most of my wooden bridge structures have literally rotted away, so I will need to replace them with something more substantial if I am to return to it at all.

I guess the simple fact is that I seem to have much less in the way of free time to do anything these days. Recently I returned to an old hobby of mine, making model aircraft from plastic kits, but even that is a challenge when there is little in the way of time and dedicated space to do these things.

I'd be keen to know that Carl is OK though if anyone has heard from him.

Just heard from my dear wife that Carl is at least alive, he was being interviewed on BBC news this morning about the current fuel shortages in northern France!

Good news indeed

Here no real shortage, just panicking people that rush to petrol station, so a short shortage due to that reaction, back to normal now.

Hi everyone, I have done an update on my thread, but to re cap I have moved back to the UK with all my worldly goods and chattels including wife cat and trains, o and not to mention the fish.
I hope to resurrect my railway, but on a smaller scale when time permits, as the house we got is a bit of a cosmetic doer up. so some time will be taken up. still I am back online so will pop in the forum and check on you all from time to time.

A quick update on the status of my line: after years of neglect, and yet another abortive attempt to clear the way last year, I am now making a concerted effort to get it back up and running. I have managed, I think, to clear the ivy that was choking the line, as well as the lonicera 'trees' that were almost 1:1 scale trees.

As of last weekend I am re-laying the track bed, by bedding in some celcon blocks. This will hopefully mean more stable track, better electrical continuity, and less interference from weeds.

Pics to follow on another thread when I get a chance to upload some!

Just an idea, you understand, but... Does anyone think like me that there may be some merit in setting up a Facebook group to run in parallel with the forum? Not to replace it, just as an additional medium for sharing ideas, photos, vids etc.

I notice there is already a Facebook user called 'Continental Garden Trains' (which could be Carl's, I don't know) but as yet no group.

What do people think?

Great Idea. I have quite a few pictures/videos to post but found this unwieldly on the CGT website.

It would be so much easier on Facebook.
