... and I am not a happy cheerful old Hector at the thought of having to reload in excess of 1000 photos somewhere else - and then make the requisite changes to my web site...

At the moment I am considering PIcassa Web as an alternative. Not as functionally rich as the late lamented Fotopic, but it has the attraction of giving 1Gb of free space and a slide-show feature. However, I am open to alternative suggestions... Preferably clean ones, but failing that, as long as they're physically possible and not involving pain.

I use Picasa, because it's owned by Google like Blogger, and blog images are stored on Picasa automatically. While it's ok, I cannot for the life of me seem to link to an image on there, only to a thumbnail. One reason why I don't post much on here is that I would like to post photos...

Bruce

Here is an embedded photo from a test album on my Picasaweb account:

From Visit 2008: Chelles, France

It seems that you can dictate the size of the embedded image - by default it's set to 'Thumbnail', but you can change it - the biggest seems to be 800px, which is what I tend to set most of my pics to anyway when I embed them in forum posts.

Here's another embedded image where I didn't change the size setting:

Or how about 'Medium (400px):

All thinly-disguised excuses for posting pics, I admit...

No need to make excuses.... Smile

I have my own paid web site server space with tons of storage space that I'll never use,
so I host my own pics (plus sound files and video - but that's slow) or I use the associated image hosting on here. https://servimg.com/

Thanks, Clive - but the option of image size is no longer there, it was a few weeks ago, but now it isn't? I must be missing something?

Hang on - we might be making some progress here... Picasa hosted pic...
From H&DLR public album photos

I think I may finally have cracked it... I hope... apologies for wasting band width, but I've been struggling with this for a bit.

Please use https://servimg.com/ if you want.
That service is associated with this forum.
When you become a member you should be invited to subscribe to that service which can make posting pics on here easier if not automatic.
If anyone needs help with that please say.

Anyway....keeep those nice pictures coming.

Yes, I read on the Rail UK forum that the 'technical problem' has come about because the new owners didn't renew the domain name, and as at 1/1/09 the domain www.fotopic.net became de-listed!

OOOOPS

In theory it should be a simple matter to reclaim it - unless some cyber-squatting little twat beat them to it and is now holding them to ransom.

From my searches of the net last night I was quite impressed by the 'Jalbum' photo gallery software; unfortunately you need somewhere to host it (and the photos of course) - they have their own freebie hosting service but the quota is a paltry 25Mb. Looking at the moment like Google wins (again).
