Alternatively, if you're hankering for some real no-holds-barred 'discussion' on the matter (and damned fine entertainment to boot), keep an eye on this thread on LSC:

http://www.largescalecentral.com/LSCForums/viewtopic.php?id=10504

Early doors yet (still only 1 page of posts at time of writing), but the main protagonists are already on there, so it's likely to warm up pretty fast!

The contortions of this outfit are never ending.

Even though they deserve most of what they are getting because they charge the earth and you should be bloody well grateful, I dont think LGB/Maerklins disappearence is good for the hobby as a whole. Less competition is never good.

My bet is LGB will survive. Soon however, everything on the planet will be made in one big factory in China.

Edited: so as not to cause offence.

Not really much point cross referencing GSM on here, as some of us were kicked off for voicing a valid opinion on there. It's also no good everyone bleating about the demise of Marklin/LGB when G scalers are buying counterfeit Chinese rubbish at cheap prices. Every penny spent on undermining LGB is another nail in their coffin.

You can of course voice your opinion here whether it be pro or for Marklins or LBG.

Grown men should be able to have a mass debate in public without it getting personal.

Nobody will be 'kicked off' here unless you wish to be...but then one can cancel one's membership on here oneself and do a lot of things yourself like moderate other's posts if you really feel they are OTT.

Adult behaviour in an adult world. Razz

NB. I had a quick look over on GSM and I quickly read a few posts (out of the 148 and rising rapidly) from regular contributors to controversy and diatribe. Is it all worth it, the time, the energy, the anguish?
Let's not go there, eh!
Keep making those lovely figures Clive. How about some more 'pastiche' modelling from the South Mikey. How's that interesting waiting shelter with my roof coming along Andy and I've got some projects to do and publish soon, anybody else ?

Indeed.

But there are folks around who jump down your throat if you dare question anything about LGB. They need to get a sense of humour.

WE ARE JUST PLAYING TRAINS. YES EVEN WITH SUPER DUPER LGB.

I got booted off one Forum for upsetting some delicate flowers therein....'tisn't happening here.

Spot on comments MzB, GSM are intolerant of any dissent from the red box collectors club and appears to be run by a verry unrepresentative clique, big fish in small ponds.

Absolutely John, we play with trains. I suspect that these people have a very shallow life. They need to get out more I don't think anyone cares how many red/blue/yellow boxes they have other tahn a very narrow strata of the modl railway world.
If the demise of LGB means we all have to do some modelling then GREAT.

It not only undermines LGB, every bona fide manufacturer in the hobby gets stung by this "fast buck and disappear" rubbish

The long term tragedy here is lack of spares to keep our LGB locomotives running. The natural wear and tear of wheels, axles and gears I fear are going to render thousands of Pounds / Euros / Dollars worth of LGB locomotives static exhibits.

I really don't have an axe to grind here and certainly wouldn't challenge other peoples emotive views - just a few hopefully objective observations from a relative newbie to the hobby.

It would appear that Lehmann (LGB) became insolvent before the advent of "copy" models from China

It would also appear that Marklin had deep rooted management problems unrelated to the acquisition of LGB and that in all likelihood the LGB receivers auctioned off the moulds to Newquida just as they auctioned off the spare parts to Warenreich Toys.

As I say just a personal observation

I've bought quite a few parts from Warenreich Toys on eBay, but some of the selling methods annoy me .... in one auction they will sell a wagon or coach body complete with its doors and/or windows and roof .... in another they will sell a body but then the doors are in a separate auction that you may not win unless you bid ridiculously high. His postage costs also go up with each item, but a short strand of wire with a small plug could be thrown in at no cost. They do seem to be quite knowledgeable on what they are selling though.

Shocked

That's an important issue concerning the spares situation.

I'd better learn how to use a lathe and mill then. Shocked

I must have been lucky with Warenreich - bought five seperate lots weeks between each win and only got charged the original shipping for one item.

Stuff arrived well packed - no complaints.

I agree it's infuriating the way they seperate lots, but I suspect they're working through a shed load of parts and simply list them as and when they come to the top of the pile.

I imagine they're pretty clueless as what goes with what !

It is quite bizzare how much of a lather the posters on GSM are working themselves up to, I think that to allow the potential loss of one manufacturer to become as important as it seems to be to some is very unhealthy. Perhaps a more balanced life is the answer or even to get one, maybe meet some girls or something?
Seems to me that LGBs troubles stem from producing a Rolls Royce product at Rolls Royce prices, that business model is fraught with peril as it relies on a smallish target market and is a luxury item, first against the wall come the recession/downturn/slump/depression. cheers
