Theres a interesting thread started by Johnsaintjim(Graham) on Golf Sierra Mike about Summerland chuff pipes.Theres also a link to a youtube video of Grahams lawley fitted with one of these pipes. The lawley gives out a really nice chuff,I just might treat my lawley to one of these pipes, when shes stripped down over the christmas holidays for a repaint. There available for quite a variety of makes and models.

Van still stainzless and its to bloody hot to do any work outside.

Just ordered one of these myself, for my not-continental-at-all Mortimer Embarassed - I'll let you know how I get on!

Chuffers don't use extra steam, they are on the exhaust side of things.

I'm bursting with enthusiasm for it, Van. cheers It was a 10 second job to fit, a little tweak to ensure it's position in the chimney was correct, and out into the garden - brilliant! Especially when heavily loaded at slow speeds, it really does sound good. 25 seemed a lot for a bit of brass and a copper pipe, but it is the knowledge that you are paying for, not the materials. I have heard several chuff pipes over the years, and none have been anything like as good.

There's a video on the other channel by my mate GHW but it's not very good, as I forgot my transmitter (d'oh) and had to run her manually on a steeply graded line, so there are several 100mph+ passes, but also a couple of slow shots when you can really hear her chuff. Also the soundtrack of it is inserted over another engine occasionally.....I know her voice!

Anyway, the product is highly reccomended for Accu locomotives, I'll be buying them for my Roundhouse locos too when I can afford.

Neil.

If it's only a 10 second job how is it fitted, just a slip over push fit or is there something else involved please.

I would like to try and make my own custom one so I'm keen to see how these ones fit.

I've found their website which contains comprehensive details and fitting instructions.

Summerlands

The Accucraft generic are a straightforward screw-in replacement.

Roundhouse ones look a bit more daunting to fit depending on model.
Only if Roundhouse had made a removable/opening smokebox door.... Wink

The accucraft one is a threaded fit, carl - looks like about 3mm, so the oldie unscrews and the new one screws back in. The Roundhouse ones are push fit, I think you have to shorten the exhaust pipes a bit.

I have some photos somewhere, I'll post them when I find em!

Thanks Neil but I've just ordered a metre of 4mm copper pipe for 3.60 chez Regner and I'm going to try and my own.

I'm copying the Regner idea of a short 3mm dia stub screwed into the steam distribution block
and some 4mm pipe push fitted over that.

This will work for Accucraft too.

I'm also thinking of ways to increase the plume as well and introducing a small plain oil reservoir so that it burns some smoke at the same time...... geek

I'll be interested to see how that fits in a 'Billy'. Can you post some 'fitting' pics.

So, getting on with the job in hand (after reading the instructions), three brass cheesehead screws need to be undone to remove the smokebox assembly.
You can see two here........

So, placing the smokebox assembly loosely on top of the chassis, measure down from the top of the chimney, 72mm as per the instructions............. (This varies for different locos).
