Into the last week of habitation in Chelles and indeed with many things associated.

We sign with the notary for our house in Normandy on Saturday 19th and will be moving for good the day after.

We have still some issues to resolve with our old house which will result in a thrifty if not miserly Christmas. We were ‘fleeced’ for 900 euros ‘worth’ of work due to the waste and rainwater systems being incorrectly connected.

As a result of the move I shall have no internet access over the Christmas period and thus I wont be able to participate in a jolly jolly forum Christmas time.

I can access e mail via my mobile phone if anyone needs to contact me.

We will have internet access - ADSL 18 meg within 15 days of moving so say Orange.
Not bad for a village of only 300 people I suppose.

The trains are already in Normandy, they went last Monday!

I have changed my forum location in readiness and the Avatar is the crest of Brionne, the main commune that our village comes under.

There is a Stainz loco in the picture - the one with the blue cab - its an Eggerbahn HOe scale of 1970s vintage.
Lucky for me I possess two of them.

Good luck with the move Carl, I hope it is as smooth as is possible with these things. Smile

They are not bad little models considering they are older than the Lehmann ones! I had one that ran very well, but I sold it on tho.

Best wishes on the move Carl!

Thanks chaps but when it seems that nothing else can go wrong it does....Evil or Very Mad

I just popped out this afternoon to get a packet of vacuum cleaner bags at Carrefour seeing as I'm on General Housekeeping Duties now Mme H is bedridden with Pig Flu.

And whilst carefully parking my wife's bright red car in a parking space some stupid fat b*****d in a Mercedes van rams into the passenger door in reverse without looking.

First of all he said,
"Vous êtes collé trop proche" - I was too close, then he said mockingly,
"Votre voiture est tellement petite que je n'ai pas vu même si je bien regardait."
That my car was so small that although he was looking he didn't see it.

Then he realised by my use of furious swearwords that I was English and limply tried to imply that I didn't understand the right of way in the car park.

When he saw my face was turning the same colour as the car he tried to placate me.
"Ce n'est pas grave monsieur, Il y a des choses plus important dans le monde".

At this point I read thr heading on the accident statement form 'Nous ne fachons pas'
So I calmly gave him option of spending 'Noël au hôpital' or I call my big friend in the CRS who will come and 'deal' with this problem 'tout de suite'.

He duly signed the statement relunctantly admitting it was his fault.

Next............?

Aaaaarrrrgh.....

This morning on our way to one of three visits to the notary.....

Another idiot on a motorbike tried to overtake me on the wrong side as I was turning left. He realised too late, braked, skidded and flew through the air in front of the car. luckily I stopped just in time as the wheels were almost touching his head......

Beam me up to Normandy 'tout de suite'.

Thanks and have a good one too.

It's not the motorbikes Troy...
Some damn fine machines out there but it's just the stupid under 20s hotheads riding them.
This one that literally flew past me had a history by looking the state of his 'dirtbike'. I couldn't even take down the registration number and neither did he want me to for that matter!

Luckily he wasn't really hurt.

Just a few more days left here now but we are still responsible fo this house until early January when the new people sign.

That means I've just had to insulate all the pipes as there'll be no heating after Sunday. silent

I think Friday evening will be my last time 'online' for a while as the PC needs to be packed up and the phones will go off Saturday here and on up there but no ADSL.

Carl:
Is it possible to drain the pipes? I've found that's a better option for an unattended house. At the very least, shut off the water at the inlet to the house, just in case anything freezes and breaks. Bon chance, mon ami.

Not just bikes and not just the young! I was sideswiped at 130 km/h on the A26 by an elderly Belgian in a Mercedes who had trouble with the lane markings - only a scratch fortunately.

Draining down is to be advised - we do it over winter. The only burst we had was on the insulated, but in the house, short bit of pipe on the company side of the meter.

Best wishes to Carl and family just reflect that when you are unpacked, settled, warm and cosy and reconnected in your new home it will all have been worth it!

Carl are you actually doing the removals yourself ? Make sure you leave a kettle and some mugs and tea etc in the car. Nothing worse than getting to new house , having nothing to sit on after your journey but much worse no Bl**dy cup of tea. Hope the natives are freindly, Maria read me a bit that said that the French absolutley hate English in a recent poll.

Oh Btw we will all be good boys and not destroy the forum in your absence.
Again good luck with everything and catch you soon.

Patrick and Maria

Thanks all for your comments.

Draining down a sealed gas central heating system can be tricky so I think I will just do the hot and cold water.

Most of the pipework should be ok as it inside on lined and well insulated walls.

We have about 3 centimetres of snow here now and more forecast with ice too.

It's going to be a challenge this weekend. Shocked

A few plan changes in view of the adverse weather.

We are now leaving the heating on low here until January when the new peaople sign.

As for the big move.....

It's a bit scary out there. No four wheel drive on a Luton type van.....!
Oh for a decent Landrover.

We still going up tomorrow morning but allowing 4 hours for a 2 journey.

And then we'll take account of the weather and make another journey with a half loaded van on Sunday. If things are too bad we have the option of staying up there or down here for a day or two. We will have furniture in two places.

All the journey is on good autoroute or RN and pretty straight with few hills. I think we should be all right with care. Daughter is staying here with friends.

I will leave the PC connected here until tomorrow.

Just got back from Normandy.

We signed with the notary this morning and are officially resident there. Laughing
We are still responsible for the house in Chelles for another 3 weeks though.

It took over 3 hours this morning as the road between the A13 an Evreux was treacherous. Our house and road at Boisney had 15 cms of snow...!!!
...until the snow plough came just after we arrived.

I think I need to buy some snow chains.
One more trip tomorrow with the family and that will be it.
The phone, electricity and water all work. Just have to remember how to light a fire now.
