Having seen Van's pickup, I'm surprised he hasn't been contacted by Eurostar to haul defective trains out of the Tunnel - looks like it could do it no problem Rolling Eyes

With some great relief I can now draw this thread to a close.cheers

We have today received finally and conclusively all payment and monies relating to our house in Chelles.

They have now been distributed to the various banks and creditors concerned and we have no responsibility except for things in Normandy now.

It has been a long time, 5 months to be precise from the house going on the market to being financially resolved.
Conveyancing is not quick here.

We had 3 delays of signature at the buyer's notary and many a restless night and stressful days as the cost of a heavy bridging loan continued.

Then we had negligent delays caused by blatant incompetence from the notaries involved in the sale. What are these geezers paid for eh?
At one time we didn't know where our money was or when we were going to get it.
It's scary to lose track of +1/4 million euros. cyclops

If anyone wants in-depth practical information on property purchase in France (especially what notaries to avoid) we shall be pleased to advise.

That's 3 times we have moved in France now and definitely the last, unless...... What a Face

...NOT to be continued... Cool

Glad for you of this happy end !

It's no consolation, I know, but you are not the only one to have problems with the french "notaires". They are a bunch of unreliable parasites, taking advantage of legal obligations which make them unavoidable. They make a significant part of their profits by retaining real estate transaction money as long as they can, in order to pocket interests out of it. Not telling you when you will get your money is just part of their trade.

sans vouloir polémiquer et perturber cette histoire , il faut savoir que ce ne sont pas les notaires qui gardent l'argent , mais ils ont obligation de le verser à la caisse des dépôt et consignations , (l'état ) qui le place à 17% au jour le jour .

Without wanting to be involved in controversy and to disrupt(perturb) this history(story), it is necessary to know that it is not the solicitors who keep(guard) the money(silver), but they have obligation(bond) to pay(pour) him(it) in the box(cashdesk) of the deposit(warehouse) and the deposits, the etat) which he places him(it) in 17 % from day to day.troubler), cette histoire (histoire), il est nécessaire de savoir que ce n'est pas les avocats qui gardent (garde) l'argent (argent), mais ils ont l'obligation (l'obligation) de payer (pour) lui (elle) dans la case (cashdesk) du dépôt (entrepôt) et les dépôts, l'Etat) où il lui places (TI) dans les 17% de jour en jour.

Glad for you and your happy ending, Carl. I will not likely ever buy any real estate in France, but if I do, I'll look you up. Smile

Ah- a Dame-Jeanne of Calvados- now that's the ticket. Makes dealing with lawyers tolerable.

We are right on the edge of Calvados (dept 14). We are actually l'Eure (dept 27).

A few kilometres along the main road and you are into serious cider country!

And as with most places in France stinky cheese everywhere.

One man's fromages odorants is another man's stinky cheeses. But apparently we all agree upon Calvados.

Google translation captures the thought more accurately:
Camembert and Livarot are the two breasts of Normandy

I never thought of cheese (stinky or otherwise) in quite that way. Wink

Actually mamelle refers more to the nipple or teat rather than breast (sein).

An udder is often translated as pis.

I was trying to find a contextual translation for:
Camembert et Livarot sont les deux mamelles de la Normandie, but it is very difficult.

There just some things you just cannot translate exactly because of the culture and I suspect a morceau of Gallic inuendo.

You can't really say "Camembert and Livarot are the two big tits of Normandy."
That honorary title must go the buxom farmer's wife along the road here.

.....I think her name is Veronique. Embarassed

She could be.... I love you

She might go past this morning. They move the sheep between fields along the road outside my house on Mondays and Thursdays.
I was going to give her a hand last time as some the sheep were wandering off.....

I'll put my wellies on ready just in case. geek

I still find myself very happy sometimes on the main road when farmers change fields. The whole of the A28 shuts down whilst the sheep are hearded into the next field.
Lots of modern cars filled with suits being held up by tradition.
Bliss. Very Happy
