Hi Andrew

Thanks for this link.

At 30 including shipping to France for a 2.4 GHz 4 channel Tx and Rx it's well worth a gamble! There may be import duties though, up to 30%

I'll let you know when/if it arrives!

I plan to replace the FM set in my Live Steam Edrig

Hellp Brian,
I am glad it was some help. Also there is a new sound card being tried out where the diesel engine begins to rev up before the loco actually moves away.
I have heard that it sounds great and is very cheap to make. I will send more information when I have it available.
Regards Andrew

A BIG thank you to Andrew

The set arrived yesterday - no import duties thank goodness so a real bargain! Probably as it was marked toy parts value 9$

Simply swapped it for the existing FM RX and it worked straight off - plug and play, just as well as it came in a plain box with no instructions!!

It even has a remote aerial receiver module but the one attached to the RX which is tucked inside the brass body of the loco seems to work glitch free in any case.

So I now have four channels as opposed to two and glitch free operation.

Can't reccommend Hobby King highly enough for anyone thinking of going 2.4Ghz on a budget.

Hobby King

Cheers Andrew and Merry Xmas down under!

Hello Brian, that is great news! I will pass this message onto Greg Hunter at Sandstone & Termite Railway. He will be glad to hear that news as well.
I have been busy converting Christmas tree lights from those long coloured globes to led lights. About 55 lights now are overhead on the outside railway track. I connected them to a 12 volt battery charger with a resistor soldered in the wire. There is very little current draw. It has enough light to make the track to be seen quite plainly. This morning (It is 0750 hrs at the moment) I will spend a few hours in the shed making more lights for indoor use before it gets to hot. Forecast for today will be 33 degrees C, so warm until a thunderstorm tonight. We had a minumum of 25 degrees C overnight.
Funny in Australia is that we have a storm forecast for today but elsewhere in New South Wales there is flood warnings going out to prepare for 200 mm of rain. Very strange when we consider that over 80% of the state is in drought.
Have a great Christmas & New Year
Regards Andrew

Hello Paul, I am glad it was some help to others. I travelled up to Sydney yesterday to G Scale Hobbies to see a friend pick up his new Roundhouse Silver Lady in the Maroon colour. It was a great day with the dealer (Rod) taking time to sit us down & going through the loco explaning and showing us what to do in the initial set up, running and then when it cooled down, what to do at the end of day running. Had a great day.

Hi Andrew
That must have been a good day. To get a days tuition on live steam - excellent.
(I had to read the instructions as I set my loco up, lucky for me it was a well "tuned" easy to run Roundhouse Billy that performed faultlessly in spite of its novice owner).

I will be in Sydney during February - I hope to visit a garden railway shop or two when I get there
Do you have any recommendations ?

I just completed a posting on the other channel regarding a modification I made to one of those Hobby King 2.4 GHz radio controllers. The modification will allow two different locomotives to be controlled (speed and direction) independently by a single transmitter.

Here's the link: http://www.gscalecentral.co.uk/f/tm.aspx?m=38253

Nice one Bill !

If I had more than one live steam Loco that's a brilliant control solution! 2 Loco's simultaneously controlled off the same transmitter - I think some of the guys on GSC missed the point???

I say again these HK units are fantastic value!

Even if you've second thoughts about r/c thees units are cheap enough to experiment with!
