Thanks Clive,

It is nice to see it prospering in the hands of 2 younger chaps who ironically left the real Vivarais after its closure.

I believe Pierre Malfay the original owner still lends a hand.

Just think a few years back both you and I contemplating buying this place. sunny

Indeed we did! I still have the photos and video you sent me.

Still, as you say it's nice to see it continuing... I wonder how M Malfay would have reacted to seeing a giant US loco on the tracks, given that he used to run it religiously to the Vivarais prototype

That was really his or the park's commercial downfall.

I was there when someone complained about the lack of variety, speed and frequency of trains.
He explained that the next train as per the real timetable wouldn't be until after lunch (over 2 hours later....) and that it would be the normal single Billard railcar travelling at the correct speed for the line. silent

Thanks for sharing the links!
Great movies of a beautiful layout. I really love those French buildings, especially the village setup against the hill (with the working church bells).
What's the story than about this layout? Is/was it a commercial project or something?

There's a third part also: Ardèche-miniature 28-5-2011 - 3ème partie

And from another guy a very nice "on board" video: Le Grand Tour

Yes it was/is a commercial project created by Pierre Malfay and his brother. Both are fantastic modellers and they created in miniature, a passionate authentic version of the metre gauge Vivarais line in the beautiful Ardèche region which is the western side of the Rhône valley just south of Valence.

Here is an interview with him in 2005.
Pierre Malfay interview 2005

Due to advancing age he decided to sell it and for about 3 years it lay semi-dormant. I was priviledged to attend one of his invited guest open days in 2006.

Sadly the real Vivarais from Tournon to Lamastre closed and 2 people who used to work there took over the running of it. They changed a few things notably the variety and running of stock to create a more universal attraction.

Ardèche Miniature

Pierre is still actively involved in all things Ardèche and trains campaigning for the Vivarais to reopen.

Is it true that Pierre Christian was asked to provide buildings for the orginal layout and that is the origin of the Imagimonde range?

I think that they have their own moulds for the buildings and structures - when I went there you could see them stored away. Whether Pierre Christian was involved I do not know. I did ask them if they would consider taking on commissions and use the moulds to make buildings and structures for sale and got the very French/bizarre answer of no because they did not want people to pirate/copy them.

Apart from that well worth a visit and there is plenty of non prototypical activity.

Pierre Christian did get involved with Pierre Malfay and the two collaborated over the construction of buildings. Beyond that they will have to elaborate.

2 pierres nice people, great modellers. I love you

BTW, Pierre also means stone in English. Laughing

I was unable to see the version on france3.fr ('barred in your geographical location' Smile ) but fortunately I remembered my password for VML, so I saw it there. It is a wonderful line, but must be a full time job just keeping the line clear! Thanks for sharing!
